Had Enough of Alcohol ?

When alcohol starts to control every aspect of your life, it can feel like there’s no way out. The good news is that there are many different ways to begin changing your relationship with alcohol, and finding the right approach is a personal journey.

How Can I Stop Drinking Alcohol?

For me, the approach that changed everything was a mindset shift.

The first step is to ask yourself one simple but powerful question:

Why do I want to stop drinking?

Be completely honest with yourself. Think about all the ways alcohol has affected your health, your relationships, your confidence, and your happiness. Does alcohol change you as a person? Do you like who you are when you are drinking?

Here are some of my own reasons—the “whys” that motivated me to make a change:

  • Daily hangovers
  • Constantly feeling tired and having no energy
  • Developing high blood pressure
  • A bloated, red face
  • Letting myself and other people down
  • Becoming argumentative
  • Loss of confidence
  • Having no motivation
  • Memory blackouts
  • Having to apologise… again

Defining your own “whys” is one of the most important first steps in understanding your relationship with alcohol. Your reasons are personal, and they will become the foundation of your motivation to keep going, especially on the difficult days.
